We have continually pushed the boundaries of immersive media, as early pioneers in AR and VR technology and content, and as leaders of multicam solutions behind the now famous bullet-time scene from The Matrix.

In 2011, we were part of the core team that launched String, the acclaimed mobile augmented reality technology platform. We worked with many of the world's leading organisations on the early applications of AR, including: Disney, Nike, Audi, Paramount, Ford, Boeing, VW, Barclays, Magic Leap, and many others. Hammerhead launches as one of the first dedicated VR studio’s globally, on a mission to create best-in-class immersive content. Combining our experience in AR and joining forces with the crack team behind one of the earliest games for Oculus Rift, Undercurrent. The studio takes its name from the shark with outstanding 360 vision.
February 2015. A high octane race experience created to launch the Lexus RCF at the Geneva Motor Show. We dispel myths around editing and comfort in VR, creating an all-action race experience at the Ascari track in Spain.
May 2015. An early example of our high quality production pipeline. You are 2cms tall and on a ride of decadent discovery through a luxurious fridge. Boursin wins 3 awards and PlayStation promote it as one of the best quality examples in VR.
July 2015. A fan piece and example of what we can do in just 2 weeks, we create a VR demo for Star Wars in Unreal. Achieving 2.5m views in a few days and over 250 pieces of international media coverage.
August 2015. Our first foray into episodic storytelling in VR, and early R&D progress of volumetric capture with video textures in Unreal. This work lays the foundations for our Jaguar Wimbledon project and roadmap for future volumetric capture ambitions.
Thunderhead, Google, and Louis Vuitton join the VR fray as new clients.
Nov 2015 - Feb 2016.
June 2016. Hugely successful cinematic quality VR experience for Jaguar and the Feel Wimbledon campaign. Featuring Andy Murray and 13,000 other scans, this is a first to bring volumetric and Unreal together at this scale. Wins several industry awards.
July 2016. Our first consumer release ‘ABE VR’ is launched for Oculus, Vive and Sky VR. A short VR film created entirely in Unreal Engine, ABE is the first VR experience to be officially certified by the British Board of Film Classification (15), Has achieved over 140,000 downloads to date and been selected for the BAFTA VR showcase.
A dynamic VR data visualization platform, enabling VW colleagues to collaborate on complex data sets from different locations around the world. Part of an ongoing data visualisation platform started by Hammerhead as part of The Sanger and Epic Big Data Challenge in 2015. More soon.
March 2017. We launch our category defining VR.... Launch category defining horror survival game for Oculus and HTC Vive, with free DLC content and entirely new episode and game mode released in May. PSVR is coming late Q4 2017
September 2017. Having worked closely for a few years we acquire TimeSlice Films, leaders of multi-cam productions and innovative 3D capture solutions for over 25 years, and the guys who pioneered The Matrix bullet-time technique.
October 2017. In pursuit of our ambitions for create and enable the next generation of immersive content, and furthering our own work and experience in this area, Hammerhead launches a state-of-the-art volumetric and 3D capture studio, in partnership with Digital Catapult and Microsoft. The first of it’s kind in Europe and one of only two such studios globally the facility aims to support the growth of the UK immersive media ecosystem.
