We used 3D scanning instead of traditional multicam animation because it enables a completely free viewpoint experience in the edit. By free viewpoint, we mean once the model of the high jump and the scene were built you can then fly a virtual camera in any direction around your subject, at any end speed and for any duration.
This opposed to traditional multicam animation where your virtual movement is restricted to the physical path and number of cameras you used to build your array.
Essentially you have more creative control over the frozen moment with 3D scanning. But you knew that.
